Only one other student chose to do the collection analysis assignment. She chose the George Peabody Library, which is interesting because the George Peabody Library played a significant role in establishing the first library school in Korea, after the Korean War. The collections are similar, in that they both include many works of philosophy, history, and personal letters and papers. They differ in that the Peabody Library has a much stronger emphasis on literature. While literature was certainly represented in Joseon collections, especially among common people who had access to books much earlier than in western countries, reading for leisure is not representative of the purposes, motivations, and uses books were put to in Joseon society.
